TAHIRI VEILA

Tahiri liked Anakin.  Then she loved him.  Then he died.  Then she killed some Nyax dude.  Then her Vong persona tried to take over.  Then she made friends with Riina Kwaad her Vong persona.  In the galaxy far, far, away, that's really, really cool.  On Earth, I believe we call it multiple personality disorder.

(Interesting Tidbit:  In Mandarin, Txiin Q'aah roughly literally translates to Fallen Heart)

History Lesson:  Every culture has some sort of tragic forbidden-love story.  The GFFA has Anakin and Padmé.  Yuuzhan Vong have Yun-Txiin and Yun-Q'aah, twin deities who disobeyed Yun-Yuuzhan and fell in love.  When they were discovered they were punished to live day and night apart (or something like that--my poor old memory can't remember).  Now they govern romance.  In Yuuzhan Vong culture, romance between castes are forbidden.  Those who choose to break the rules often delude themselves by believing that they have been granted a pardon by the two twin lovers.  Worshippers of the twin gods are part of a sect called the Undying Flame.

Tahiri Veila: The daughter of moisture farmers who did a nice thing and were killed.  (They saved a Tusken Raider, just like Anakin Skywalker did in TPM.  Then, like Anakin Skywalker, they were screwed over by other Tusken Raiders.)  Anyhow, the Tusken Raiders who killed her parents then adopted her.  (How nice of them, I think.)

Tahiri was discovered by the Jedi Luke Skywalker and Tionne on Tatooine. (Timetales assumes they were trying to find out more about Anakin Skywalker's childhood).  She was given six months to decide whether or not she wished to stay at the Jedi Academy, where she befriended Anakin Solo.  On a return trip to Tatooine, Tahiri's adoptive father, Sliven, told the full circumstances of her parent's death.  Then she and Anakin hiked through the desert and she was like, "okay, I'm staying with the Jedi, hoorah."  They freed some ghosts from a globe and fought a magician, breaking many school rules with no punishments.  (Luke has no idea how to discipline children...and then he wonders why Anakin and Tahiri are so reckless when they're teens).

Right before the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Sliven passed away and Tahiri began to live at the Jedi Academy full time.  Master Ikrit made her his apprentice, but because of her age she was not allowed to leave the Academy and fight on the front lines.

Then the Vong landed on Yavin IV.  Ikrit was killed and Tahiri was kidnapped and Vong washed.  Anakin rescued her.  They had some hanky panky and ultimately Anakin was stabbed and became one with the Force, irresponsibly leaving Tahiri in an irreparable state.  Tahiri moped, chatted with his corpse, hung out at the cremation, and became close to Luke and Mara while on Coruscant.  Then she split off again to lead Barefeet Squadron.  Then she mysteriously vanished and returned twisted in the head and magically anorexic.

Riina Kwaad: Tahiri Veila's Yuuzhan Vong name.  They tried to convince her that she was Riina Kwaad, and she fought back but now it appears that Riina has taken up residency in parts of her brain...

Hot Damn:  Okay, so I'd just finished re-reading Rebel Dream. And I'm sitting in bed. And then I notice Conquest on my nightstand, so I pick that up and flip through it. Kind of painful, because this is Anakin, and he's alive and stuff.

And then I notice page 110 of Conquest. The much debated dark Tahiri dream.

Tahiri's dressed in crab armor, and she's dark and evil and tattooed all that good stuff.

"The last of your kind. The last of MY kind."

And then she slices downwards with her lightsaber and Anakin wakes up. Yeesh.

So what am I getting at? Anakin knew the person in the dream wasn't him. Maybe Tahiri attacks Jacen. He's the only Jedi ever to be shaped besides our good friend Tahiri. Making him the last of his kind, and the last of her kind, cuz they're of the same kind.

Well, that was a while ago.  Now...I'm not so sure about that, but I'm sure about this:

Since Conquest and Rebirth, there has been a lot of evidence showing that Tahiri's dark side has manifested itself in Riina Kwaad, her alter ego.  Whenever Tahiri does anything weird, she thinks Yuuzhan Vong style and talks in Yuuzhan Vong language.  This transformation is most obvious in Remnant, when Tahiri isn't aware of what's happening but slowly acts more and more like Riina.  Like the only thing holding her back from becoming Riina was Anakin.  She was missing for about three weeks before Remnant and anything could have happened during that window.  She's a time bomb waiting to explode.

Update #1: In Refugee, Tahiri's behavior becomes even more erratic.  She has many regrets about Anakin and grieves for him horribly.  She is also slowly spiraling out of control.  In the end of the novel she ends up in a coma in the eye of a blast radius.  Goure, her newfound friendly Ryn friend, realizes that Tahiri and Riina are fighting for dominance and that the only way for her to survive is to coexist peacefully.

Update #2: By the end of Reunion Tahiri is all better.  She has merged with Riina Kwaad and they are now a weird hybrid that still goes by the name hybrid.  A random joyride with Corran Horn, Nom Anor, Nen Yim, and Priest Harrar sticks her on Zonoma Sekot, where she runs into smells-like-anakin, "you will always be family" Jacen.  Oh, and she gets to call Corran Master, (but not the same way Mara called Luke master in Destiny's Way) which will undoubtedly inflame the friendly Corellian's ego to even greater heights.  Thus ends The Final Prophecy.

Update #3: Five years after the end of the Yuuzhan Vong war, Tahiri lives on Zonoma Sekot as a Jedi mediator, trying to put both sides of her personality to work.  She receives the same call from UnuThul that the others do, since the scars from her trip to Myrkyr have obviously not yet healed.  Now that she has abandoned her self given mission on Sekot and Corran is no longer her mentor, everything prophesized in the past is still up in the air.

Oi Vey!: Some things to consider about Tahiri~
